you asked me
if i like the snow;
i said that
it’s okay–
to be fair, ask me again
on an april day

truth will cut you
when you hear it,
consume you
when you believe it,
and crucify you
when you speak it

i watch two swans together
who are truly mates for life,
and it makes me feel better
’bout the loss of my late wife,
for although i miss her so,
the swans have cast a spell,
and i’m just glad to know
that love’s alive and well.

the night’s water nymphs
resolve into rocks and logs
at the break of dawn

in all the forest glades i pass,
i see the frosted blades of grass;
this windy morning, i can hear
this whispered warning: winter’s near!

mountain lake i find
is a sight
to behold,
and offers a peace of mind
more precious than gold

There must be an up
For there to be a down;
Something must be lost
For something to be found;
There has to be chaos
If there is to be a plan;
There must be a woman
For there to be a man.

don’t warm my extremities,

I’m walking the Mesabi Trail;

up here, the hardwoods prevail.

Some maples are only now turning,

Though most of them look like they’re burning!

Once upon a time, there was nothing.
I mean, there was nothing but nothing.
In fact, there was so much nothing,
That that fact became something,
And once there was something,
It quickly exploded into everything.
