there’s a grosbeak in the pines,
and he asks me, “tee tee tew?”
so i answer, “i am fine,”
and inquire, “how are you?”

as a birdman, i will say
that he understands my words–
but they might put me away
for talking with the birds.

I enjoyed your poem and must say that you are not alone in your conversations with Nature. I confess I do that too. We are in good company if you wish to explore the writings of another American, James Allen.

Thanks, Shelley, I’ll check it out. When I was a young boy, a lady fired me as her paperboy for talking to a tree! I don’t remember talking to any tree, but I did lose a customer, so…

Oh my! I recall writing a poem years ago called Talking to a Tree but I do think that lady’s dismissal and condemnation said more about her own state of mental and spiritual health. I just remembered that writer’s full name as J. Allen Boone. He wrote several books like Kinship With Life. All good reads.

Love these beautiful birds. They pass through here in spring. Got a 2 percent chance of snow Thursday night! I’ll have to stay up like a child waiting to see the first flake. Happy evening!

There’s a thunderstorm up by the Canadian border, and it’s starting to rain now. In a couple days, we’ll have a high of 3 below. Strange weather, indeed!
