winter’s an old man, they say
with pale, flaky skin
silver patches in his hair
and stubble on his chin
i look at winter’s attributes
and realize it’s true–
i know the signs of getting old
because i have them too

Beautiful photo. I enjoy reading the verse too. I prefer to think of winter as a time of resting. When the land take a breath space ready for the next growing season

It can be a peaceful time, too, with softly falling snow and such. Thank you, Paula!

Getting old can evidently be beautiful, as much as for most of us there are also unpleasant aspects. This photo is so lovely, the colours, the layout and everything. The poem makes a perfect pairing.

Very thoughtful.
We should all be so lucky live into our own winter season.

I think of that all the time; so many I knew never got to enjoy the golden years.

Beautiful photography and poetry. I often think of Winter as a metaphor for death, Spring as rebirth, Summer as growth and Autumn as old age and the golden years but I see and appreciate your silvery grey and white old age Winter metaphor too. The metaphors and symbols of poetry add such richness and deeper layers of understandings to any language I think. 🤍🩶

I can’t imagine what our world would be like without a tilt–no seasons to wax poetic over, not even sure life as we know it would be possible. Thanks, Shelley!
