Slowly, the massive, battle-scarred buck
Steps out of the woods and into my range.
It’s rutting season now, and his neck is
Grossly swollen with the thick muscles
He’s acquired by rubbing and scraping
His antlers on everything he runs into.
This one is a real scrapper, for sure,
All jacked up on male testosterone
And ready to do battle if necessary.
I line up my sights and take aim.
He hears the click and bounds away,
But it’s already too late–
I got my Shot of the Day.

Love this! The photo is full of natureβs earth colors, my favorites. I love the purples. Enjoyed your words, too!

Wonderful! You not only got a good shot but also shared a clear understanding of what you were seeing. I grew up in a family of hunters and gatherers. Though the meat fed us, your shot is best in my view. π

He sure has bulging neck muscles! We had just come from visiting some guys at a hunting shack; man, were they jealous, they had a 134 lb doe. Thanks, Shelley!
