Despite the assuming title here, I’m not any kind of photographer–but I sure do like taking pictures! There’s nothing like getting out there in nature early in the morning, when my camera and I are both fully charged. However, if you’ve ever snapped a few yourself, you know about the disappointments and failures of the endeavor. Here are four examples of things that make me go grrr when taking wildlife pics:

The subjects won’t cooperate. No matter how hard you try to get a group of anything to conform to the shot, there’s always that one screwing it up at the last second.

Animal butts. I swear that three-quarters of my wildlife photos are of their back ends as they flee. In their defense, some butts are almost cute, or at least interesting like this mama lynx’s. It looks somewhat like a lions–who’s she trying to kid?

Too damn ugly! Some creatures, like these vultures, just aren’t picturesque no matter what filters or settings I use. People don’t like to look at them.

Out of focus. There’s nothing worse than when you think you’ve captured a great moment in nature only to get home and find that your photo is useless garbage.
In truth, these are all minor annoyances for the most part, and are nothing compared to the joy and peace of mind I get by just being out in the woods with my camera.

I feel the same way chasing butterflies around the yard. Soon as I get a good composition they fold their wings. Happy day!

Yep, 10 shots, all folded wings!

I love to photograph birds, but as you know, they are tricky. Always on the move! But I treasure the few good shots I get along with all the blurs!

Smaller birds are especially hard, with all the flitting about. Also, I have yet to get a good shot of a magpie!

Ah yes! I’ve had more than a few of these as well even trying to doctor some with software at times when the camera and I didn’t sync. Sometimes I’m disappointed, annoyed or amused. The photos I regret most are the ones not taken when timing evaded captures or no camera was around. Yes, we can savour and live the moment then forget everything in just days. I never take photography and cameras or washing machines for granted and do truly appreciate them in our modern ways of life. At the same time, I prefer not to have machines rule the world. It’s a complex relationship, humans and machines.

Yes, it certainly is a complex relationship. As my camera gets older, it screws up more and more–just like me! Thank you, Shelley!

I can relate to what you’re saying. I just fed my car tires air to keep them moving on then decided to top up the gas there, now $2.12.9 a litre, only have my debit card rejected by the fuel machine when I know I’ve got more than sufficient $ in my account so I chuckled and drove home with my three quarter full tank only to find a surprise when I arrived home. My gas cover was still open and miracle of miracles, my gas cap was still sitting pretty on the trunk of my car!! Haha. Guess I got screwed up by the screwed up fuel machine! Lol!!
