i step outside
to check the smoke;
it stings my eyes
and burns my throat,
but what’s been done
to the sun is even
more troublesome:
it’s become
bubble gum.

Your poem would deserve a ‘smile’ if we read it without knowing the background. Its wording and rhyming is playful.
But knowing the reason behind I would add some teardrops instead.
Anyway, the Sun really is like a bubble gum… good photo

Is this truly the color of the sun?! Frightening

Only because of the smoke and the angle does it look pink like this.

We have a strong south wind today, so that should help.
