the fox

half dog, half cat

with a smidgen of rat

he’s hard to find

and photograph

we list his crimes

in nursery rhymes

from sour grapes

to fox in sox

he makes us laugh–

that sly ol’ fox

I’m reminded of that riddle of the goose, the fox, and the corn, and in case you haven’t heard it, it goes like this: a farmer has to get a goose, a fox, and a sack of corn across a river, but his boat is so small, he can only transport one at a time. Without leaving the fox alone with the goose, or the goose alone with the corn, how does he do it?

    1. Yep, that was the only type of solutions I could come up with. Though it seems it would be something sillier than that. Or he can eat the corn himself (which might take soem time) and take one at a time after that. Either one first. Actually he could eat the GOOSE himself, that’s what I would do, tastiest, then the corn and Fox separately.

      1. well, let’s see. He can dump the corn into the bottom of the boat and shove it across, put the Fox in the bag and swim across with it and the goose. Or just get in the boat with the corn and make the Fox and goose swim over. Ha.

  1. I do love foxes – I live in what I term an urban-suburban area – and boy do we have wild life – especially foxes who seem to be dedicated Washington Post readers because people are always catching them (with the ubiquitous Ring cameras) stealing the paper off their porches. Talk about porch pirates.
