the old year
fades and disappears–
what will the
new year bring?
just like all the other years:
more of everything

it had snowed
once in november,
yet all that
snow would go,
and now here in december–
our second first snow!

we old folks
live from day to day,
determined
not to die–
tho the sun has slipped away,
there’s fire in the sky

in winter,
rocky point provides
a lesson
for us all:
though ice threatens on all sides,
her flag still stands tall

when we try
every morning
to cross the
rocky way,
the beasts come without warning–
searching for their prey

the scarecrow
quit his post today;
now crows are
in the grain–
some folks say he ran away
looking for a brain

i look in
the woods with caution
to see what
i can see
and every so often
it looks back at me

it’s not so
much about what is
in the woods
on my walk–
what’s important to me is
that the world is not

i saw a
heavenly light shine
when i was
lost at sea.
was it truly light divine?
well, it was for me.

i’ll admit
it’s rather scary
when clouds in
life amass,
but storms are necessary–
and they always pass
