High Noon

final shrooms

In the middle of our supper,

The night fell with a thud,

Splattering gravy everywhere.

Smokey licked most of it up,

But the damage was done,

And it stayed dark all night.

Then, at breakfast, the day

Suddenly broke overhead,

And our corn flakes went

Flying in every direction.

Again, Smokey cleaned it up,

But the damage was done,

And the day stayed broken.

For lunch, we went out to

The pasture to eat more of

The mushrooms we’d found

There a few days before.

Suddenly, Smokey pointed

Up at the sun, and yelled,

“It’s high noon! Hit the deck!”

But the damage was done

And we stayed high all day.

lilac sky

final dawn art

i had a dream

of lilac skies

above a ruby lake

when suddenly

it dawned on me

that i was not awake

at length the thought

occurred to me

that maybe i could fly–

without ado

away i flew

into the lilac sky

angel

shefinal

our little mid-western

town was truly blessed

the day she was born

she had a rare beauty

inside as well as out

she was so ravishing

that the other girls

weren’t even jealous

it was beyond that

she made them proud

to be a friend of hers

proud that their gender

had produced such

an exquisite creature

her radiant smile

could reach right out

and cure any illness

every single person

that she had ever met

instantly loved her

hearts ached for her

shy boys would run off

when she floated by

her angelic radiance

enveloped our town

and everything thrived

but the day came when

she had to move away

out west to california

to where she belonged

and though life went on

in our mid-western town

it was never the same
