There lives a young spider named Deb
Who boasts she’s an on-line celeb,
But beneath all the hype
She’s the self-centered type,
And it shows when she goes on the web.

the ducklings have grown
their limpid pond has turned green–
the dog star rises

water lilies
are like souls;
they transcend
the murky scum
of stagnant ponds
and remain
pure

my lost inner child
hangs out on a hill among
a few wildflowers
we run into each other
more and more as i grow old

we were heading
for our wedding
and were sweating
clammily,
for to falter
at the altar
would insult her
family;
she suggested
that we rested
and ingested
our champagne,
and her noted
poise eroded–
she was loaded
once again!
in the aisle,
all a-smile,
she beguiled
all her clan,
but they dissed her
when she missed her
mark and kissed the
preacherman.

fresh black-eyed susans–
each wanting to tell her own

Come down
To the bar with me–
The air is cool
And drinks are free!
Come watch your
Worries disappear,
No shirt? No shoes?
No problem here!
It’s happy hour
Every day
Down at the perfect
Hide-away,
And if you still
Don’t feel free,
We’ll swim out
To the sea.

a sun-kissed
morning mist
dances o’er
the creek
and makes
it all
so magical
enshrouded
in mystique

Starlight falls out of the skies
And settles in her upturned eyes
She peers into the jeweled vault
Until the sun begins to rise
An amateur astronomer
She knows the moons of Jupiter
Orion’s belt and Saturn’s rings
She loves the stars like I love her
I hope someday she’ll love me too
But I will not obstruct her view
Or take the stars out of her eyes
My love for her is tried and true
