I’ve been seeing a lot of trumpeter swans heading south lately. They fly in the same V formation as geese, but they don’t make that terrible racket that geese are notorious for. They’re more graceful in their flight and more gracious in their departure.

I like to keep my posts on the lighter side, but lately the news is a steady diet of death and destruction, and I’m stuffed. Sometimes I envy the birds flying free above it all.
it seems like almost every day,
there’s more bad news that comes our way;
it makes me want to spread my wings
and fly above the fray

I got up this morning and found that winter had officially arrived overnight. It’s really a complete paradigm shift; every little aspect of life here near the Canadian border changes, from the clothes we wear to the places we go to the things we do. Now, where’s that shovel?
It’s peculiar the way we ourselves also change with the seasons; myself, I’m a bit more laid-back in the summer, but winter brings out a more responsible me.
