i threw snowballs at the moon–
and assumed i’d missed,
but now, with my telescope,
i see the lunar landings

I left the party and started walking
Down the road toward town.
I’d show her, belittling me like
That in front of our friends!
Overhead, the starry night sky
Was one big beautiful mess.
Myriad stars were haphazardly
Strewn across the celestial dome
As if some great chandelier had
Fallen and shattered, scattering
The broken shards of glass
Throughout the universe.
As I walked along, gazing up
At the heavens, I suddenly
Felt incredibly small–
The world under my feet
Was but a speck of dust
In the vast depths of space.
I was infinitesimal!
At that point, I turned
Around and began walking
Back to the party.

winter’s frosty breath
warns us that we’re very close
to her frosty bite

it seems like
i’m in a snow globe,
on a shelf
by mistake,
and i can’t find my way out–
so please do not shake!

in winter, there are
no wasps left in the nest to
shovel off the roof
only the queen lives, and you
can’t expect her to do it

a path thru life seems
to cover much ground in size,
yet it’s not all that long–
as the crow flies

at the ski resort,
i show the young grandkids where
snow really comes from

as i’m growing older,
the winters feel colder,
but nothing’s more tranquil
than a walk down to the lake–
though colors fade away
on this bleak december day,
i’m feeling very thankful
with every step i take

i look up and see
old apples still on the tree–
they’re a lot like me
soft, over-ripe, and snow-crowned,
we just keep hanging around

when you see that religion’s a fraud
and that most of it’s tenets are flawed,
do not be too frightened
to become enlightened–
you don’t need a church to find god.
