breakwater walk-ways–
the closest we can come to
walking on water

some people ask how i get all these pics,
so i’m telling you one of my favorite tricks–
here’s how i beat other folks to the punch:
when they’re having breakfast,
i’m having lunch

when summer’s
haze is hanging o’er
the land it
seems to me
like i’m standing on the shore
of the deep blue sea

the coming storm
obscures the light
of lifted lamp
and golden door;
without our beacon
burning bright,
our land grows dark
from shore to shore.

A blue heron is dwarfed by the world’s largest floating loon on Silver Lake in Virginia, MN. The loon, unlike the heron, is tethered by a cable to the bottom of the lake, and only comes out of the water in winter.
I don’t know what it is about us Iron Rangers, but we also have the world’s largest hockey stick in Eveleth, a couple of miles from here.

I asked the sun why
He puts on such a show
When he rises or sets–
I wanted to know.
He said he hoped someday
To become a big star,
And all I could say was,
“You already are!”

It’s another wonderful Minnesota morning; I just had to share it!

walking, talking
we find ourselves
hand in hand
on a shoreline stroll;
lapping, slapping
the waves set up
an ancient rhythm
that stirs the soul;
splattering, spattering
wildflowers are drops
that fell when nature
painted in the spring;
rushing, gushing
the summer breeze is
the breath of life here
connecting everything

“I love you so much,” said the bear,
So she let him come into her lair,
But when he was finished,
His love was diminished–
And now he’s not found anywhere.
