i felt so in tune
at the door of my tent;
a night at the lake
had been time well-spent.
just then, from the mist,
came the call of a loon;
his mate quickly answered–
far off, but in tune.

a silhouette is nothingness
expressed in a shape;
it ain’t what it is,
and it is what it ain’t.

shoot for the stars in
everything that you do–
unless you’re fishing

under peach skies
a silent sunrise
no rushing water
no songbird’s reprise–
just me and the river
telling no lies

when mom brought a fish to her nest,
the young ospreys felt they were blessed;
they knew right away

they were having their favorite guest

wildflowers are like
stepping out back for a smoke–
and finding fireflies!

a summer zephyr
breathes thru the towering pines

i read my poem
to an old friend
he assumed it
was about him
it caught me so
off guard when
he began to sob
i had meant it
to be humorous
seeing him cry
brought tears to
my eyes as well
so there we sat
two grown men
sobbing together
over a silly poem
about time travel

poems are paper planes–
we send them out, not knowing
where they might touch down

some like to hang in the trees,

some are excessively fat,

some have their woodticks and fleas,

and some of them know when to scat!

the urban scarecrow watches you
as, on the stage, you fret and strut,
but do not let her bother you–
her mouth is sewn shut
