when i was young, i tried to find
a portal to another time,
as it was shown on our tv–
a temporal anomaly.
well, now i’m old and don’t recall
the journey to this place at all;
how did i get here today–
a portal, or the usual way?

on my walk today
i came face to face
with mother nature herself
in the colorful blossom
of a roadside wildflower,
and yes, she’s a crazy old lady
in an outrageous costume–
just as i suspected.

I woke up this morning to the deafening crack of thunder right outside my window. I stumbled to the front door and opened it. There, filling the entire sky, was this black funnel cloud bearing down on me. The fear I felt at that moment was…exquisite.
Fortunately, it never reached the ground and skipped right over us.
The experience reminded me of Molly, a dog we had years ago, who was so afraid of thunder, she would panic and stand there shaking–gun-shy, they called it. On the Fourth of July, she would hide in a closet upstairs all day.
Not only did I get a Shot of the Day out of this storm, but a huge Shot of Adrenaline as well. I think I’ll use it to my advantage and tackle some of the household chores I’ve been putting off.
Fear can make one do
The most unexpected things–
Like cleaning the house

your world made sense
until someone came along
who made all kinds of waves–
now everything is wrong,
yet before you deem
this person unsuitable,
be sure they’re not making
your world more beautiful

“june”
june is when the grass
is somehow greener on
both sides of the fence

walking among the trees
a beautiful day for a stroll
looks like a clearing ahead
what’s that, more wild roses?
no, it’s a long, lovely patch
of pink lady’s slipper orchids–
minnesota’s state flower!
