ghoulish forms
rise from the swamp
at dusk
on halloween,
and they are not
alive nor dead–
but somewhere
in between.
they blindly grasp
at living things
to be
absorbed into,
and hopefully,
those living things
will not be
me or you.

born into a world
of ‘others’
we may not all see
eye to eye

our mothers
we can get along
if we try

my legs hurt, but it’s not bad–
in fact, it hurts good.
sore muscles serve to remind
us that we’re still in the game.

trees wear fatigues
in the summer
and colorful robes
in the fall,
and then, in the
cold grip of winter,
they tend to wear
nothing at all
