taking in an old dog, whose owner had died,
i was told that he rarely took her outside,
so i tore off her collar and threw it away,
and we went on adventures day after day.
and though she was here for only two years,
i think of her now and it brings me to tears,
but deep in my heart, i am forever glad
that i gave her the best years she’d ever had.

It wasn’t too long, and a train came my way.

They rumble along through the hills and the dales,

And sometimes there’s more than just trains on the rails.

the gander
said to mother goose
that it was
time to go,
so they flew up north and found
nothing there but snow

this owl effectively conveyed
that he was deaf and mute–
no matter how much noise i made,
he didn’t give a hoot

spring is in the air
the signs are everywhere–
mother nature stirs

it was on an old mine dump like this one
that a relative of mine lost his life
it was the first funeral i’d been to
and i sat with his kids and his wife
to a young child, it seemed so surreal
and i would take some time to mend
but now death comes calling so often
it feels like he’s an old friend

a plump squirrel leader named don
forgot all the vows he’d run on
and stole from the poor
to give the rich more–
and soon all the acorns were gone

my dreams suggest that
everything in the world
is a part of me–
that i am in the world
and the world is in me
