I’ll never understand why so many of the migrating birds come back to the northland when there’s still ice on the lakes. This is the time for them to find a mate and start a family, but they can’t build a nest out of ice. The only thing the early bird catches around here is a cold.
However, as a painfully shy kid back in high school, I understand the difficulties of initiating a courtship, and perhaps it’s the same with these early birds.

Keen observation Michael. I was a shy introvert in highschool too. I didn’t aspire to popularity or the spotlight. I met my highschool boyfriend in grade ten after a summer of carrots, cucumbers and lettuce mostly (lost 30 pounds)😂 It was a true case of destiny. We met by the lakeshore away from a party at a place called Rose Point. A suitable name because our relationship became both beautiful and thorny. We were together on and off, hot and cold, for several years. I’m grateful we didn’t have children. Later, I realized that he’d been my first wife, Harriet, in another life, also a beautiful then thorny relationship. Our issues were carry overs to work on. I eventually married another man after three years of tears. That man was my second wife, Mary, of that former incarnation so we had some issues too but were blessed with two children for which I am truly grateful. Well, it seems human life, coutship and relationships included is more complex than that of ducks or geese. 😊
