of butterscotch skies
with brown sugar clouds
in a buttery blend
i stir up the syrup
my finger held high
and slide the sun down
as another day ends

In the spring, the river’s annual flooding brings birds of all kinds as well as fishermen, tourists, birdwatchers, and old men with cameras like me. All summer and into the fall, its roaring rapids teem with activity, but for now, the sights of the round table are…tabled.

the light, wispy skies
