Shot of the Night 3/24/22

My mother used to tell us that the northern lights were caused by reflections off the ice at the North Pole, and the movement in them was the result of Eskimos walking around on it. Then again, she also told us that fossils were buried by the devil to try to mislead us.

In her defense, she hardly had the time to drive to the library for every question she had. I wonder what she would’ve thought of the internet. Actually, I think I know: she would’ve thought it was part of Satan’s plan for a one-world government.

Yes, ignorance is not always bliss.

  1. I’d love to watch any kids’ faces as I told them we were seeing movement of the Eskimos . . . it’s a fascinating conception.

  2. Please thank your son for this wonderful photo Michael. Your post shows us how mythologies were created long ago and even in modern times and how these mythologies may go from word of mouth to writings which can even become considered holy answers to questions. The best gift I repeatedly gave to my children was the advice to listen to me and their Dad and others but to think for themselves, to keep an open and flexible mind. Information in libraries, books, internet and ‘on the grapevine’ can be in error as much as parental knowledge, the knowledge of our very first authority figures. It’s remarkable that humanity has progressed so far given our short history on Earth. 💕✨
