“Mama, if the eagle comes for us, will the turtle over there help us? He’s got a big hard shell–maybe we could hide under it.”
“No, I’m sorry my little ones; the turtle has his log, and that’s all he cares about.”

winter came back
for a visit this morning–
she pulled a white sheet
o’er my freshly mown lawn,
and now i’m afraid to start
planting my garden
until i’m convinced
that nurse ratched is gone

It’s a beautiful spring day
And finally time for us
To come down out of the trees
And clamber around on the rocks

She was trying to cheer up
Her friend across the table,
But the others got jealous,
Glances were exchanged,
And a brief scuffle ensued.
She became so incensed,
She turned her back to them,
And there they sat in silence.
It grew cold between them
And soon they drifted apart.
Obviously.

i would be sick to death
of another winter’s day
but nature’s frosty breath
still takes mine away

window
to the future
hangs over our heads
forever out of reach
a blank shade
lights
off
