it
begins
with a fib
and grows into
an unforeseen web
of subsequent untruths.
our noses begin growing
like the lines in this etheree,
and it’s all a little funny because
we can’t even remember that first fib.

an
oddly
lanky crane
was often teased
by the shorter birds;
they called him ichabod,
stilts, or a walking beanpole,
but with a wingspan of six feet
and a pair of laughably long legs,
he rose above it and took it in stride

i
woke up
in the night
with my blanket
twisted up in some
kind of mobius knot;
half asleep, i wrestled it
in the dark to no avail,
and when i finally threw it out,
it came back and started licking my face.

the
old man
and his house
lived together
for so many years
that they began to share
certain adjectives such as
old and cold, shaky and flaky–
though lately, it’s more gerunds such as
moaning and groaning, creaking and leaking
