fiery autumn leaves
don’t warm my extremities,
but do warm my heart

autumn’s beauty has
arrived again right on time–
still, i am surprised

you can’t fool me, i got the chills
i know you’re hiding in the hills
if you tip-toe down too soon
summer’s work will go to ruin
everyone seems unaware
just the same, i know you’re there
you can’t fool me, i got the chills
i know you’re hiding in the hills

To some folks
It would seem
Oaks and maples
Reign supreme
In the great
Autumnal forest
Where their fiery
Colors scream,
But I will
Not besmirch
The poor poplar
Elm or birch–
Beneath their
Golden canopies
I feel like
I’m in church

Autumn creeping up on us.

the season had ended
the leaves had descended
and I was to rake
them away
so I went out at dawn
to my leaf-covered lawn
when a favorable wind
came my way
now my leaves were
blown high
in the blustery sky
while I leaned on my rake
all the day
and I think that it’s been
quite a favorable wind
but my neighbors don’t
see it that way

Well, the weekends came every other day, and now summer is about to stub her bare toes on September, so on this last day of August, I leave you with these wildflowers and fruit I picked on my walk in the woods yesterday. Have a great autumn!
