Skittles?

Every time I see a doe out this way, near Stephanie’s place, I wonder if it could be Skittles. After all, we never did find out if she perished in that blizzard last winter or just found her place with her own kind and never looked back. I want to call out her name to see if I get a reaction from any of them, but she probably wouldn’t recognize me anymore. I pray she’s okay.

skittles, did you ever find

your rightful place among your kind?

or did you fall beneath the snow

to be with mom? we’ll never know!

dirt demons

dirt demons, attempting to flee,

got into the roots of a tree

and upward they heaved

toward the thin, porous leaves

in the hopes that they soon would be free,

but an angel stood fast in their way

and she ordered the demons to stay,

thus ending their spree

but half-way up the tree–

where they can be seen to this day.

Second Winter

It looks like our winter thaw is over; below-zero temps are in the forecast for later this week. I’m hoping that the colder temps will bring clearer skies, as it’s been greyer than Gandalf’s beard around here with all the fog and clouds. There’s been nothing to take photos of, especially now with all the migrating birds gone–so I have to get creative.

all in the same boat,

we appear to be heading

for second winter
